APPEAL AGAINST SENTENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Frederick Shortland, who was sentenced the other day to ten years’ hard labour, with a flogging of ten strokes, for rape, has despatched an appeal against his sentence on the ground that in the circumstances it was excessive. It is understood the flogging has not yet been administered.
