TO-DAY'S PROSPECTS. I (By "Moturoa.’) The Levin Racing Club’s annual meeting takes place to-day, and numerous acceptances ensure good -sport-. W it-h f-oim well exposed at Ashhurst there should be some fairly warm favourites to-day, and the general public may find tiling's easier for them than they did on , Wednesday. Winners at Ashhurst will ■ be required to put up lOlbs. extra at Levin. Racine commences with the Manukau Hack Hurdles, one mile and a half, and All Melody, who was short of a gallop when he finished right up third at Ashhurst, is likely to have many friends. Suspicion and Puwhero, who finished in fiout of All Melody at Ashliurst, are r.ot engaged to-day, and Mr. Jas. Bull’s gelding easily accounted for Diamond Nap, Equitable 4 , Goldlpiece, Kanaka and ’Benifant there. The newcomers include Waimatao, Amber Tips and Proclaim, and Waimatao* may be All Melody s strongest opponent. The Welisr Hack Handicap, seven furlongs, with twenty-two acceptors, looks very open. Penalties will bring Gluemen t’s weight to 9.'6, and Puketoi will have to carry 9.1. Both won in good style at Ashliurst, but Gluement’s performance was the more impressive. Amongst the lightweights is Sotta.no, a nice four-year-old gelding by NassauCassock (dam of Almoner), which ran third to Pulketoi and Wilderness on Wednesday. Sottano is trained at T tenth am bv *T. Quinliven, and will have more supporters to-day than he did at Ashliurst. Koauau was badly kicked at Alshhurst on Tuesday evening, and could not be started there. It is doubtful if he will be in condition to produce
his best, if started to-day. Kenyon had every chance on Wednesday, but was beaten into fourth place at the finish. The Maiden Haek Handicap, six furlongs, contains a lot of ‘‘rough stuff.” but amongst the number of likely ones are Gardant (Kilbroney—Maltegarde), who finished a close fourth in the Siberia Hack Handicap on Wednesday, Rangimoana, who was th to Zaza and Miss O’Dille in the Maiden there, and Lapsed, who has run a second and a third this season. The race being for horses that have not won at ti mc of starting, Zaza is not eligible. Zaza, by the way, is a speeily three-year-old gelding by the Achilles horse Iliad's Hero, out of Lady Delavel, and he was a good one. Twenty remain in tae Levin Hack Handicap, six furlongs, and recent form points to Degage, Dangle, Tutankhamen and Megalo as a very fit quartette. Degage has won three races this season, ami Dangle, looking in need of a gallop, fiuisned. on strongly at Ashhurst, running Lady Isinglass to a neok at tlie end of six furlongs, while Tutank-
hamen finished a creditable third. Mega 10 was a hot order for the Komako Hack Handicap at Ash hurst, but was knocked off his feet at the start, and then finished fifth. Degage is a good one, but on Wednesday s form Dangle appears to be worthy of the greatest respect. 'Hie Levin Gup, one and a quarter miles, has attracted fourteen acceptors, nine of which ran at Ashhurst. Pantier won the cup there with 6.11, and scored so easily teat 7.6 way not trouble him to-dav. He is a horse of moods, however/and does not always act generously. " Merry Day shaped poorly in the Ashhurst t-'up, hut Happy Days was running on at the right end. Kareao was given a run in the open welter, but finished badly. Bitters and the others ran unpromisingly,, and on form Happy Davs and Pantier should hold their own with the crowd seen out on Wednesday. They are not a good lot, and (Festivity might trouble the best of them. The weakest field of the day will b» that contesting the Lake Handicap, one mile and a distance. 'Gluement, if leaerved, will carry 0.3. and should be popular. Sunsliot shaped badly on Wednesday, and will have to improve a wholeheap to have a chance with the Gluten
a The McDonald Memorial Handicap, seven furlongs, appears more open. Master Sandstone, if reserved, will run well with !>.!>, and Prince Hal (8.7), Aeriform (S.3>, Ttapotoa (S. 10 and Sir Pam (S. 10 all read well. If Hiapotoa reproduces her form of Wednesday she will have to be reckoned with.
The concluding event, the Hokio Hack Handicap, five furlongs, 'will probably have some light shed upon it by earlier results during the day. Zaza (7.8) and Lady Isinglass (0.0) won at Ashhurst, and Dangle (9.0) also shaped pro. musingly. At the weights Zaza and Dangle appear’to have fair prospects, but the flutter is anything but an ideal Recovery Stakes.
