ELECTRIC LIGHT CARNIVAL. A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. ATHLETIC AND HORSE EVENTS. WifrXVS.P-' ic-v. (From Our Own Reporter.) Hawera, Nov. 20. Despite the postponement from last night, the electrio light carnival held under the joint auspices of the Hawera Athletic Club and the Egmont A. and P. Association to-night proved one of ! the most successful of the series, both i from the point of view of management and the class of sport provided. 1 A very large crowd was treated to an i excellent programme of athletic and cycling events, and horse leaping, while Mooseman’s orchestra gave a fine programme of music. Songs were given by Messrs. Fred Lowe and G. Laidlaw; a cornet solo by Mr. J. Davies; and a flute solo by Mr. W. Watts. Several of the show attractions lent additional ' interest. ! E. V. Dunbar, the English Olympic 1 champion, and a strong team from Wanganui, greatly increased the interest in the competitions by their presence. The results were: 100 yards maiden.—O. E. Rosser 1, G. Albert William Siever, described as a side-showman, was charged at the Hawera Court to-day, before Mr. J. H. Graves, J.P., with assaulting a girl and with using indecent language in a public place. Mr. P. O’Dea, who appeared for the accused, said he intended to plead not guilty, and asked for a remand until tomorrow. The remand was granted, and bail was allowed in accused’s own recognisance of £2O and two sureties of £lO each.
