MODIFICATIONS SOUGHT. BRITAIN AND DOMINIONS. By Tol<»jrrnr,h—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 20. 7.55 p.m. London, Nov. 19. The committee of the Federation of British Industries, in a letter to Sir Philip Lloyd-Greame (President of the Board of Trade), urges that representations should be made to the Australian and New Zealand Governments to modify the 75 per cent, preferential tariff over a wide range of commodities. Some are of wholly British origin, while the others comply with the .regulations in spirit, but not in letter where goods are partially manufactured elsewhere and are finished in Britain. Australia and New Zealand should define the 1 term ‘raw material” to include material produced within the Empire. The committee suggests the deletion of • the 50 per cent, regulation, relating to goods manufactured in Britain from , mat'•rials not available in Britain if similar goods are manufactured in Australia or New Zealand.
