CHARGE OF ASSAULT.
ACCUSED SENT FOR TRIAL. By Telegranli.— ’’rcss AiwielaUnn. Auckland, Last Night. At the Police Court to-day, Ernest John Brasting, aged 26, a motor mechanic, was charged with having assaulted Albert Welch at the Bucklands beach on October 5 so as to cause actual bodily harm. Complainant sa : d he was invited into a house by a woman acquaintance, and there met other men and women. He had taken two bottles of whisky, from which the party drank. Accused subsequently hit him as he was sitting in a chair, fracturing his jaw. Accused, in evidence, said he objected to Welch's attitude towards a woman to whom accused was engaged. Welch tried to hit and then kick him, and in self-defence accused struck Welch. Accused pleaded not guilty and reserved his defence. He was committed for trial.
