SUPREME COURT.
TARANAKI SESSIONS. HEAVY CRIMINAL LIST. SITTING NEXT WEEK, The criminal list on the calendar of cases to come 'before the Supreme Court, which commence® its sittings at New Plymouth on Tuesday, is an unusually heavy one. As a general rule, there are only three or. perhaps, four cases for trial, but on this occasion there are seven, four of them relating to alleged sexual offences. Another charge is that of manslaughter arising out of the fatal motor -collision at Tikorangi some time ago. In addition to the case® for trial, one prisoner will appear for sentence on his pleas of guilty in the lower court to charges of theft and forgery. In the civil list one case has been set down for hearing before the judge and a jury of four and ten before the judge alone. One of these is the petition of James Stellin and another against the Patea Licensing Committee for writs of certiorari and mandamus with regard to the refusal of the committee to renew the license of the plaintiff’s hotel. Three petitions for divorce have -been set down to come before the judge and a jury of twelve, and -six before the judge alone. The remainder of the list -comprises two appeals and -the usual -assortment of originating summonses under the Family Protection Act, etc., motions for discharge in bankruptcy, and motions for the release of the Deputy Official Assignee from the administration of bankrupt estates.
