CHURCH FOR PIONEERS.
BUILDING at whangamomona. FOUNDATION ATONE LAID. The foundation atone of the new Anglican Church at Whangamomona was laid on Sunday by Archdeacon Evana in the presence of a large number of settlers. Heavy rain fell during the day and evening, hut ceased entirely for the actual stone-laying ceremony in the afternoon. The first portion of the service wan taken in the hall, when appropriate hymns were sung and the solemn service appointed was read. The Rev. G. A. Young, missioner for the diatrict, took part with Archdeacon Evans in the service. In the course of hit address, Archdeacon Evans referred to the splendid self-denying work of the settlers, who had suffered so many losses and who had undergone bo many privations in the recent disastrous floods and who had yet raised the money necessary for the erection of the church. He trusted that the new place of worship would be an inspiration and blessing to the whole district. The clergy and people then proceeded to the church site, where the atone was laid with the usual solemn ritual. A considerable sum of money towards the coat of the new building was collected and pieced upon the stone.
