BOWLING.
NEW SEASON APPROACHES. —■ NORTH TARANAKI PLAY. THE SHIELD FIXTURES. A committee from the Taranaki Bowling Centre representing the Northern Division, consisting of Messrs. A. K. Smart, J. D. Sole, S. J. Smith, M. G. Nasmith, A. T. Moore and F. J. Hill (secretary) met on Saturday evening for the purpose of drawing u> the lift of Centre Shield fixtures for the Northen Division for the coming season. The fixtures were drawn up as follows: First Round. November I.—New Plymouth v. West End, home and home; Fltzroy v. Vogeltowa, M Fltzroy; Fitzroy v. Waitara, at Waltara. November B.—'West End v. Fitzroy, homo and home; New Plymouth v. Waltara, at New Plymouth New Plymouth v. Vogel town, at Vogeltown. November 22.—New Plymouth v. Fitzroy, home and home; West End v. Waltara, at Waitara; West End v. Vogeltown, at West End. November 29.—Vogeltown. v. Waltara, at Vogeltown. Second Round. December 6.—New Plymouth v. West End, home and home; Fitzroy v. Vogeltown, at Vogeltown; Fltzroy v. Waltara, at Fltzroy. December 20.—West End v. Fltzroy, home and home; New Plymouth v. Waltara, at Waitara; New Plymouth v. Vogeltown, at New Plymouth. January 10.—New Plymouth v. Fitzroy, home and home; West End v. Waltara, at West End; West End v. Vogeltown, at Vogeltown. The Vogeltown and Waltara clubs are to be allowed to fix a date suitable to themselves for their game in the second round. THE GILMOUR CUP. Mr. Smart brought up the question of the Gilmour Cup, which had been presented by Mr. Gilmour for encouraging Saturday play when the half-holiday was on Thursday. Now that Saturday was the recognised half-holi-day in New Plymouth, Mr. Smart' thought that the cup should be played for on Thursdays, as the Centre provided shield matches for Saturdays. The suggestion met with warm support, and It Was decided that the cup be competed for by the town clubs, it not being a Centre competition. Clubs wlil be allowed a minimum of four rinks, but Vogeltown will be permitted bo play with three rinks. The draw for the first round was then arranged as follows: November 27.—West End v. Fitzroy, at Fitzroy; New Plymouth v. Vogeltown, at New Plymouth. December 4.—(West End v, Vogeltown, at Vogeltown; New Plyinouth vf Fitzroy, at New Plymouth. December 11.—New Plymouth v. West End, at. West End: Fltzroy v. Vogeltown, at Fltzroy. The second round will be drawn later during the season. OPENING OF SEASON. FIXED FOR OCTOBER 11. At a meeting of the presidents of the various (local clubs, held recently, it was decided to officially open the bowling season in New Plymouth on Saturday, October 111 1 . Each club will send representatives to its sister clubs functions.
The Vogeltown Clulb will formally open its green on the same date as the other dubs, but as this season the club has shifted to a new site, the new green Is to have an official opening on Saturday, October |B, when each club is expected to send an official rink to take part in the games on that day.
