DROUGHT BROKEN

A fairly heavy fall of snow occurred in the back country and, is six inches deep in some localities. Christchurch, Sept. 24. After a long dry spell rain fell over North Canterbury last nig'ht and this morning, doing immense good. Dunedin, Sept. 24. Much-needed rain set in before midnight and continued steadily all day. It will have beneficial effects in country districts. Timaru, Sept. 24. Beneficial rain fell in South Canterbury over night, but much more is required after the protracted drought.
