S.O.S. FROM STEAMER. BELIEVED TO BE SAFE. By Telerraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 23. An exciting race to assist a distressed steamer is reported by the Orient liner Orsova, bound Home from Australia. She wirelessed this morning that she had received an S.O.S. from the American steamer Cranford, off Cape Finisterre. The Orsova was 47 miles distant and the New Zealand Union Company’s Leitrim 30 miles distant. Both were rushed to assist. Received Sept. 25, 1.15 a.m. London, Sept. 24. The Leitrim has criptically wirelessed that she is arriving in London to-day. The Union Company officials therefore include that the Cranford is now safe.
