ST. LUKE’S CHURCH.
A GIFT AFTERNOOX. The ladies of the sowing guild o-f St. Luke’s Church, Bell Block, held a very successful gift afternoon at. the Bell Block Hall yesterday afternoon. The effort, which was most successful, was made in order to raise money for a garden party to be held later in aid of the church fund. The official opening ceremony was performed by the Rev. G. T. Beale, and although inclement weather prevailed there was a large gathering of settlers and visitors. The stalls were extremely well laden with all manner of saleable articles and plainly showed that the ladies had devoted a great deal of time to the preparations. The sweets and produce stalls were invitingly arranged with alnvost an unending variety of choice and useful gifts, while the bower stall was a beautiful mass of almost every conceivable bloom. The following ladies had charge of the various stalls-—-Produce, Mesdames T. French and W. Holmes; flowers. Misses M. Street and K. Holmes; sweets, Misses H. Street and D. Hamilton; afternoon tea, Mesdames J.’H. Street, B. Sampson, R. L. Parkin, J. Holmes (sen.), W. Street, G. M. Hamilton, W. Hoskin, -F. Shadbolt, Miss Shad'bolt. Mesdames Cholmeley and Philpotts and G. Hoby acted as hostesses during the afternoon. During the afternoon tea a musical programme was rendered by Mrs. Benton, Miss M. Street, Mrs. Stace, Miss H. Street, Miss Benton, Miss S. Taylor, Miss Collier, Mrs. Evans and Miss Shadbolt.
