HAMILTON SESSIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, Sept. 2ft. In the Supreme Court counsel applied for a new trial in the case in which Mrs. Marjory Ijawrenoe was awarded £2OOO damages in Auckland a few weeks ago on the grounds of negligence by defendant as medical practitioner in his treatment for cancer. The grounds of the application were that the verdict was against the weight of evidence, that the damages were excessive, and that the judge misdirected the jury. The application was refused by Mr. Justice Stringer. HOKITIKA SESSIONS. Hokitika, last night. The Supreme Court sessions opened this morning before Mr. Justice Adams; There was onlv one criminal case for hearing. Basil Gibbons was charged with breaking and entering and theft with receiving.
