THE NOLANTOWN MERGER. T'HE OBJECTORS ACTIVE. (From Out Own Reporter.) Hawera, Sept. 2®. The objectorA to the Nolantown merging proposition are actively pushing their claims ‘to remaining without the Hawera Borough and under the control of the Hawera County Council. A petition, countering 'the original peti|t‘on, has been recently circulated amongst the ratepayers of the suburb, aijd has been signed by a number satisfactory to the objectors. This petition will be lodged with 'the solicitors to-morrow to be forwarded to the Governor-Gen-eral. The decision as to whether the area shall .be merged at once or whether a commission or a poll shall decide the issue will rest with the Governor-Gen-eral. The objectors state that throughout the negotiatio-ns they have been prepared to abide by the result of a poll taken on the basis of the county franchise, but the original petitioners shave refused to accept that basis, urging that if a poll is taken it should be a poll of the residents and not of the ratepayers alone. ’ The objectors believe that the final issue will be decided either by a com-mission or a poll.
