PLUMBING TRADE.
EXAMINATION SYSTEM. By Telegraph—Press AMoctatlnn. Wellington, Last Night. The Plumbers’ Board of New Bea* land, paving called attention to th< unsatisfactory results obtained in th< last plumbers’ registration examination; when a considerable number of candidates failed to pass, the Technical Oo!\ lege Board to-night discussed the question. It was stated that students attending the school had not presented themselves for May. They preferred to wait until they had completed their course and enter for the examinations at the end of the year. The opinion was' expressed that tha unsuccessful candidates not students but journeymen “having a shot” on the off chance of passing. The system under which plumbers’ examinations were conducted was described as unsatisfactory. To require a student to undergo a course of study that should occupy six or seven years and to hold no test until the end of tha period was extraordinary. The Olty and Guilds of London certiflcatai in plumbing covered much the sama ground as Plumbers’ Board examina* tions. They require the passing of at least two separate examinations, and it would greatly encourage plumbing apprentices to take up a satisfactory course of study if a similar system WM. adopted by the Plumbers’ Board. To hold an intermediate and final exam* inatlon at the end of each year would not cost as much as to hold two final*one in June and one in November, and would be better calculated to obtain th® objects for which the Plumbers* Board existed. It was decided to communis cate to this effect to the Plumbers’ Ad? visory Board.
