A London message reports the death of Sir Algernon Methuen, the publisher. The death of Mr. Howard Strong, aged 84, formerly librarian at Christchurch and a Maori War veteran is announced in a Christchurch telegram. Mr. J. P. Kalaugher, supervisor of the manual and technical branch of the Auckland Education Board, who completed 40 years’ service in June last, is retiring on superannuation at the end of October. Miss Tizard, assistant mistress at the New Plymouth Girls’ High School, has been granted twelve months’ leave of absence during next year for the purpose of studying and teaching in India and England.

Mr. R. H. Rochel. M.A., first assistant on the teaching staff of the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, has been granted three months’ leave of absence on account of illness. Mr. Rochel’s position will be temporarily filled by Mr. G. C. M. Pearson, M.A. (Camb.), who has been requested to take up his duties at the earliest opportunity.

The resignation of Miss G. M. Mclntosh, principal of the New Plymouth Girls’ High School, was received by the board at its meeting Uaist night. In forwarding her resignation, Miss Mclntosh, who is at present on sick leave, regretted that her health would not permit of her resuming, her duties at the beginning of next year, and accordingly she felt compelled to resign. The board decided to accept her resignation with deep regret and to place on record its very high appreciation of Mias McIntosh’s services to the school.
