Ute special programme opened with the Malden Plate, for which eighteen paraded. In a great betting race Son o’ Mine waa installed favourite. Exactly, Arch Arnie, Passionate and Tactician also received solid support. The favourite attempted to win from end to end and almost succeeded. Tactician, who waa always prominent, came with a good finishing run to score a narrow victory. Exactly, Arch Arnie, Tall Timber and Miss Vera were always well forward and provided a great finish. For the Grey Lynn Hurdles Prince Rufus was the elect of the public, with Miss Mickey, Peter Amans and Landbird next in order. Greekson led in the early stages, closely attended by Highway and Landbird. Racing past the stand. Highway took command, with Greekson, Landbird and Prince Rufus handy. In the back stretch Prince Rufus fell and Landbird went into the lead. He got a good break, but in the finishing stages Highway came very strongly, showing out in the straight to win handily. Miss Mickey finished well to get third. Greekson was fourth and will do (tetter.

A great field of nineteen two-year-olds paraded for the Avondale Stakes. Mimetic, who was much admired, was the popular choice. Nastori, Father O’Flynn, Lady Cavendish, and the bracketted pair, Automne and Golden Autumn, were supported as mentioned, but the punters' fancies took a wide range. Golden Autumn was first out, but Oration soon took charge and led to the straight, where Mimetic, Nastori, Golden Autumn, Hyde Park and Lady Cavendish were prominent. Automne got a run on the rails entering the straight, and finishing brilliantly be got through to defeat Hyde Park narrowly. Lady Cavendish and Mimetic also finished well, with Father O'Flynn also well up.

With fifteen starters the Cup provided a problem for backers. Musketoon, on the strength of recent good performances, was installed favourite, with. Illumination, Gold Light, Pompey, Marble Bell and Landslide all receiving good support. Gold Light was momentarily in front from the barrier, but Landslide soon took up the running, only to be displaced by Pelham. The latter led to approaching the straight, when Landslide again took charge. Gold Light had been making up her ground with a nicely sustained run, and was close to the leader at the distance. Gold Light shot out, followed by Boomerday, who was always well placed, Musketoon and Stork. The top-weight won nicely, though Boomerday did well in the concluding stages. Stork was fourth, followed by Marble Bell and Landslide.

Four defections left a field of twenty-one for the Welter Handicap. Town Bank was a good favourite, with Bafa, Archibald and Dka next in demand. Heisler was quickest to begin, and carried on the running with Dan Quin handy. Heisler led into the straight from Dan Quin, Archibald and Rafa. Dan Quin had Heisler beaten at the distance, but was then challenged by Miss Egypt, and In a good finish, the latter wot by a neck. Gala Day finished well and was a neck away third. Town Bank was badly placed early in the race but was going very fast in fifth position at the finish. A field of fifteen smart sprinters faced the Starter for the Flying Handicap. Royal Blood was the popular pick, with the bracketted pair, King Merv and Prince Abbey, a strong second fancy. The favourite was quickly In front and made the running, closely attended by Master Doon and Finelli. Royal Blood had this pair beaten at the distance and looked like coming on to win easily when suddenly Soliform appeared on the outside and Namutere also came fast. In a good finish Royal Blood just stayed long enough to beat Soliform by a neck, with Namutere a similar distance away third. King Merv was fourth. Bright Day, with H. Gray in the saddle, was a firm favourite for the Henderson Handicap, good support also being accorded King Quin and Kuhio. The race needs little description, for an outsider, Poionette, getting to the front in the first furlong, was never afterwards headed, and won easily by three lengths from Smoke Concert Kuhio was close up third after being well placed throughout. Lapidary finished fast in fourth place. After being badly placed early in the race, both first and second horses returned double

figures in a field of thirteen for the Swanson Hack Welter. The public went solidly for Dazzling Light, Nightraider, Knighthood and Barometer. Dazzling Light was rushed to the front and made all the running till entering the straight, where Barometer, who had been just in behind h.er, came away. He looked to be winning comfortably, but had to be ridden to beat the fast-finishing Nightraider by half a length. Potoanui was a fair third with Finnote fourth.
