The Leyland Liner Asian (5600 tons), from New Orleans, is ashore at Shag Rock, between Gelley Head and Fastnet, on t'he south-west coast of Ireland. The vessel struck at five o’clock in the morning in a thick mist, with heavy seas. The task of lowering the boats was most difficult. One capsized and the occupants were in the water for half-an-hour before they were picked up by t'he captain’s boat. A fireman, one of the capsized lot, wa« dashed against the rocks and died after his rescue. IFour adults and two children, passengers on the boat, with seventy-five members of the crew, were afloat for two hours before they were rescued by the destroyer Sea Wolf. The Aeian is rapidly breaking up.
