WOMEN V. MEN MATCH AT AUCKLAND By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The annual golf fixture between women and men was played at Middlemore during the week-end. the men scoring five wins in foursomes and the men and women five each In singles. Detains:— Miss Eva Brown (Napier) and Mrs. Slock (Thames) were debeated by L. Quin (Eltham) and J. Goss (Wanganui), 3 up and 2, after receiving two strokes. •Miss Payton (Auckland) and Mrs. Blythe (Hamilton) were defeated by T. H. Horton (MtfSterton) and R. D. Wright (Auckland), 5 up and 4, receiving five strokes. Miss Acheson (Nelson) and Miss Snodgrass (Rotorua) were defeated by H. B. Lusk (Auckland) and R. George (Maungakiekie). Miss Jervis and Mrs. Wagg (Hutt) lost to H. W. MacFarlane and C. H. Seymour, 6 up and 5, receiving five strokes. Misses Ball (Weiillngton) and Cooper, lost to A. D. S. Dunean (Wellington) and W. B. Colbeck (Auckland), 3 up and 2, receiving five strokes. The singles resulted:— Miss Brown beat L. Quin, 4 up and 3. Miss Payton lost to Horton. Mrs. Blythe beat Wright, 3 up and 1. Miss Acheson beat Lusk, 3 up and 2. Miss Snodgrass beat Goerge, 3 up and 2. Miss Jarvis lost to Mactfarlane, 3 up and Mrs. Wagg lost to Seymour, 4 down and 2. Miss Belli beat Durican, 4 up and 2. Miss Cooper lost to Kirk, 1 down. In the foursomes each side played on handicap, the women’s being decided on their par and the men’s on bogey. In the singles the women were allowed the difference in handicap, plus two strokes. THE WALKER CUP. RETAINED BY AMERICA. a] Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyrta&c. New York, Sept. 13. The United States retained the Walker Cup, defeating the Britons In six out of eight singles. These, added to yesterday’s foursomes, gave the' Americans a grand total of nine against the Britons’ three. Tolley (Britain) defeated Marston, 1 up; Jones (America) defeated Hazlet, 4 up and 3; Evans (America) defeated Murray, 2 up and 1; Ouimet (America) defeated Storey, 1 up; Scott (Britain) defeated Sweetser, 7 up a nd 6; Gardner (America) defeated Torrance, 2 up and 1; Willing (America) defeated Kyle, 3 up and 2. THE NEW CHAMPION. It was stated in an Auckland telegram that L. Quin, the New Zealand champion, was beaten earlier in the season by H. P. Dale for the Eltham Club championship. This Is not correct?' Qifin defeated Dale in the first round of the Eltham championship by 5 up and 3 to p»lay. Quin did the round under 80.
