NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. Proceedings in connection with the sixth annual conference of the National Council of Women opened to-day with a meeting of the Dominion executive, followed by a civic reception to the visiting delegates. In the presence of about 60 ladies the Mayor, on behalf of the Women Citizens’ Association, extended a hearty welcome to the visiting ladies and hoped their deliberations during the week would meet with much success. Mrs. Carmalt Jones (Dominion president of the council) also welcomed the visitors. THEFTS FROM MOTOR-CARS. Palmerston N., Sept. I. In the Police Court Kenneth Augustus Humphreys, a married man, pleaded guilty to six charges of theft, mostly of goods left in cars parked in the town. He was sentenced to various terms of imprisonment totalling six months.
