ACROSS AMERICA.
AIR SERVICE STARTED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. New York, July 1. A Chicago telegram says that the airplanes inaugurating the New YorkSan Francisco mail service to-day are beating the schedules. Owing to the heavy mail two left New York instead of one, and left Chicage to-night about 6.30 p.m. One from San Francisco left Cheyenne somewhat later. The aviators are guided at night by overlapping pools of light from beacons, which circle the horizons, intercepting each other. The planes are equipped with high-powered lights for forced landings. > The aviators are working in relays, nine being used to make the entire distance.
