SOUND THE HORN! CARELESSNESS ALLEGED, ('From Our Own Reporter.) Hawera, July 2. When Cr. E. Morrissey was cycling along the street the other day, he had a narrow escape from being run down by a motorist, who failed to sound his horn when turning a corner. At a special meeting of the Borough Council on Monday night, Cr. Morrissey complained of the negligence of motorists in this respect,’ and instanced serious accidents which might have been avoided had the drivers sounded their horns. He moved that the attention of the police and the borough inspector be called to the by-law on the subject. Cr. J. Champion seconded and gave his experiences of accidents arising from the same cause. The motion was carried unanimously. PERSONAL. Mr. H. L. Spratt notified the Borough Council on Monday night of his resignation as a representative of the council on the Fire Board. Or. J. M. Townsend was appointed to the vacancy.
