SEVENTH LABOUR DEFEAT. By Telegraph—Pres* Assn.—Copyright London, July 1. The Government sustained a defeat in the House of Cdfrimons, the seventh since the session began. Directly the result was announced the Liberals, panic-stricken at the possibility of the resignation of the Government, rushed to the rescue and gave the Government a majority of 68. The question at issue was the liability of performers for charity to pay entertainment tax, the House voting for their exemption, but it te doubtful ;f the Liberate would have voted if they had realised the consequences. The Liberate want an early election even less than the Labourites". In any case the point was of trifling importance, as only £lOO,OOO revenue was in question. Received July 2, 5.5 p.m. London, July 1. As regards the defeat in the House of Commons, Mr. P. Snowden indicated that the Government had decided to accept the principle of the amendment. The House read a second time the Old Age Pensions Bill.
