FUTURE OF SUDAN.
PLEDGES OF BRITAIN. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July 1. Regret at the attitude of the Egyptian Government and Parliament over the questior of the Sudan was expressed by Mr. MacDonald in the House of Commons. He said the statements 'n the Egyptian Parliament and the action taken to create trouble in the Sudan were only explainable as an attempt to force Mr. MacDonald’s hand and to deprive Zaghlul Pasha of liberty of negotiation. In view’ of what had happened it was necessary for Mr. MacDonald to make clear to all concerned that he did not believe the House of Commons would accept any arrangements which would •break our pledges to the Sudan or jeopardise the present administration and its development. He still trusted those responsible 'or the government of both countries would refuse to countenance impossible demands which w’ould destroy the prospect of a settlement.
