AN EX-CONSUL’S GIFT. 1 FRIESIAN CATTLE COMPETITION. (From Our Own Reporter.) Hawera. July 2. A magnificent trophy in the shape of a cup valued at 350 guineas has been presented to the Manawatu A. and P. Association *by Mr. D. F. Wilbur, exConsul for the United States to New Zealand. for competition amongst Friesian cattle. Mr. W. D. Hunt (president of the New’ Zealand Friesian Association) made this announcement at the annual meeting of the association at Hawera to-day. He said the cup was a challenge' trophy to be devoted to a class of three cattle—a bull, a cow and a heifer. The cup could not be won outright, but the name of the -winner each year would -be inscribed upon it, and tlie winner -would also receive a miniature cup. On the motion of Mr. C. .Marchant, it was decided to elect. Mr. Wilbur a life member of the association in recognition of his magnificent gift. ’ Mr. (Hunt also announced that the Friesian Association was donating two fifty-guinea cups for competition at. the Royal Shows, first at Palmerston North and the following yeffi at Christchurch. The owners of the best male and best female respectively would win the cups, which would not actually -become the winners’ property, but the winner in each case would be presented with a ten-guinea miniature.
