ELECTION DAY ROMANCE. London, May 10. .Revisiting his old school at Newport, Mr. J. H. Thomas, the Colonial Secretary. told the story of his wooing there over 30 years ago. During an election. Mr. Thomas said he stood all day at the gate of a school checking the voters as they passed in. He was so cold in the freezing weather that he appealed to a girl standing by to give him a cup of tea. She merely tossed her head, because a man spoke to her without having been introduced. “That girl.” said Mr. Thoma*. “is now Mrs. Thomas. He added: “There is more trouble in our house about my Court dress than about anything else. My wife and daughters all help to dress me. but they cannot make me a toff. I am a working man.”
