REFORMATIVE DETENTION. By Talegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day before Mr. Justice Reed Thomas McFarlane, who was placed on probation on February 13 for two years on two charges of breaking, entering and theft, one of the conditions being that McFarlane should take out a prohibition order against himself, was sentenced to 12 months’ reformative detention. CHARGED WITH ARSON. Dunedin, Last Night. Alexander Allison, appeared on remand at the Police Court this morning on a charge of arson on May 17 by wilfully setting fire to two stacks of oaten sheaves, valued at £9O, the property of William John Paul. Evidence was given for the prosecution, showing that ill-feeling existed between the accused and Pau], and accused had told a constable previously that he would rather burn the stacks than let Paul get them. At the time of the fire he was under the influence of liquor. Allison reserved his defence and was committed for trial at the Supreme Court, bail being allowed at £3OO and two sureties of £lOO or one of £2OO.
