EMPIRE EXHIBITION.
WAGES OF WAITRESSES. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 29. A joint committee of the Trade Union Congress and the Labour Party, after an inquiry into the labour conditions at the Empire Exhibition, reports that the management has not been mindful of the necessities of its employees, with the result that, instead of the exhibition being an example to the world of good British conditions, overseas and foreign visitors find waitresses forced to depend on tips in order to bring up their wages (15s weekly) to the living standard. The committee recommends the establishment of a works committee for the consideration and removal of grievances.
