AMERICAN POLICY.
REPUBLICAN PLATFORM. POSSIBLE VICE-PRESIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Received May 22, 7.45 p.m. New York, May 21. At Indianopolis, Indiana, Senator Watson, who has been frequently mentioned as possibly President Coolidge’s running mate as Vice-President, delivered a keynote speech at the Senate Convention. He assailed the Democrats for attempting to make political capital out of the oil scandal, saying that the malfeasance of some officials does not affect a safe and clean Government and nation. “I marvel that the Democrats talk of graft and incompetency,” he added, “when during the war they wasted -billions while the armies at the front lacked the essentials of war.”
Turning to foreign affairs, Senator Watson said the Republican Party favours full co-operation between the United States and foreign nations, and the betterment of conditions abroad consistent with the preservation of national integrity.
