TRIBUNAL TO INVESTIGATE. A.S.R.S. MAKES ITS CHOICE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Of the four proposals made by the Government to the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants for a tribunal ta* adjudicate on its demands, the noeiety lias chosen the second, viz., that the tribunal consist of members of the Arbitration Court with one representative each from the department and the society, stated the president of the 1 A.S.R.S. (Mr. M, Connolly)- The society*® representative, added Mr. Connolly, would be its secretary (Mr. Mack). He himself would appear as the men’s advocate.
The alternative nroposals submitted by the Government were: (1) The Arbitration Court as at present constituted to deal with the dispute; (2) the Arbitration Court with a representative from each side associated with it; (3) Parliament; (4) a Royal Commission to be set up within five months. Proposals three and four were rejected, said Mr- Connolly, because the society wanted its claims settled immediately. The acceptance of either a commission or Parliament involved considerable delay. The society expected that as soon as its acceptance of proposal two was notified, the Government would at once set up a tribunal <Us the Government made the offer. Mr. Connolly concluded: “Our acceptance of it may be taken as finally fixing the nature and personnel of the tribunal.”
