PERSONAL.

Mr. and Mrs. T. C. List, of New Plymouth, who leave for England by the Remuera on Saturday, left New Plymouth by the mail train yesterday morning.

A resolution of sympathy with Mr. E. Whittle in the death of his daughter was passed last night at a meeting of the New Plymouth borough employees. Mr. J. S. Pearce, a well-known settler of Whenuakura, died at Te Aroha on Tuesday. Mr. Pearce had not .been enjoying good health, and was spending a holiday at Te Aroha.

A London message reports the death of Sir Frederick Bridge, the well-known musician, who was organist at Westminster Abbey for 43 years, from 1875 to 1018. He was 80 years of age. The death of Sir .lames Reckitt, aged 91, is announced in a London cable. Sir James was chiefly known from his long and prosperous business career, and his interest in philanthropic and educational work.

Mr. R. H. Pavitt, who has been New Plymouth manager for the Guardian Assurance Company, Ltd., has been appointed manager for the Wellington district of the recently formed Mercantile

•nd General Insurance Company, Ltd. Mr. Pavitt leaves to-morrow morning to take up his new duties. Mr. and Airs, M. Armstrong, of New Plymouth, left for Wellington yesterday to join the Remuera for England. On Tuesday evening Mr. Armstrong was entertained by the staff of Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co., and was the recipient of a rug for himself and another for Mrs, Armstrong.
