Sydney, January 30. The tenth series of wool sales has concluded, the market closing firm at the best rates of the season. All sections operated freely. At the tallow sales 953 casks were offered and 43U sold. Good mixed advanced sixpence, other sorts being unchanged. HAWKE’S BAY RAM FAIR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hastings, Last Night. The Hawke’s Bay ram fair opened to-day in beautiful weather, when Romney flocks were offered to a good attendance of buyers. Generally speaking, tha quality was particularly good and the entry large, though well short of the record. Bidding opened briskly at 14 guineas, and good prices were maintained throughout, but although the higher prices were very satisfactory, some good lines onlj’ reached moderate figures. Messrs. Dajgety and Co. topped the market with a line of six shearlings on account of D. Buick, of Palmerston North, which were quitted at 18 guineas. HIDE AND SKINS SALE. ADVANCE IN PRICES. Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co.’s sale of hides and skins this week was attended by a large number of buyers. Competition was very keen, and a successful sale resulted. It was particularly pleasing to note that there was an all-round rise in prices of Id to in light | and medi-uins, and 2d in heavy ox. Sheepskins, in sympathy with the wool market, advanced materially, realising prices on an average 20 per cent, higher than at the sale in December.
