Over here, we call Jim Paterson, who was well beaten up by Eddie Parker, as Australian. In Australia, he passes as a New Zealander. He is so described in an account of a tilt in which secured a surprise victory over Ted Hall, a rising boxer, in Melbourne. By the time the first round was over there were few who gave Paterson a chance of winning. Hall stood up to his work in most attractive style, and drove home beautifully crisp left hooks, each one of which sent Paterson reeling backwards despite his toughness. Hall did not move round very freely, but he looked an ideal fighter, and it seemed then that he would one day be boxing for the middleweight title. Paterson stuck to his task and soon after the opening of the Second round he drove a left to the solar plexus and crossed his right to the jaw. Hall’s legs buckled, and he fell to the ground. Half-way through the count he made an effort to rise, but his legs would not work for him, and he again floundered along the boards, whereon the referee nlaced his hand on Patersoa’» h-r-aZ.
