Exchange on Berlin Jr quoted at 17 to 22 billion marks to the pound, the quotation December 31 being 16 to 21 billion. LONDON MARKETS. Received Jan. 4, 7.30 p.m. London, Jan. 3. Wheat.—Manitoba is held above buyers' ideas, and this, together with the rise in Argentine options market, advanced cargoes sixpence. Parcels closed quiet at 44d under the highest of the day. Three thousand tons on a South Australian steamer are offering at 4'5 s 9d; 2500 tons ex Northumberland at 45b fid; parcels ex Borda and Largs Bay at 45s 3d, e-x Balranald at 45s 4sd; an Australian parcel for the end of December at 45s 3d. -Fair business passing on spot, with prices firm. Flour is quiet and steady; Australian ex store 330. Oats fully steady. Peas and beans firm at late rates. Sugar is unchanged. LONDON METAL PRICES. Received Jan. 4, 9.35 p.m. London, Jan. 3. Received Jan. 4, 7.20 p.m. Melbourne, Jan. 4. The Wheatgrowers' Corporation has fixed the price of wheat to millers for home consumption at 4s "Ad. THE STOCK MARKET. ADDINGTON REPORT. Christchurch, Jan. 3. At Addington market there was an exceptionally heavy yarding of fat cattle, but a light one of fat sheep. The last market was held on December 19. Store sheep showed a. fairly large entry and resulted in a good sale, particularly for anything forward. Practically the entire entry was disposed of. Good forward 4 and 6-tooth wethers 29s 3d; 6 and 8-tooth wethers, 23s C>d to 25g lOd; inferior 4 to 8-tooth wethers, 19s 4d to -9s 10d; 4 and 6-tooth wethers, 22s 9d to 24s fid; failing mouthed crossbred ewes, 20s 8d; aged ewes, 12s 7d to 14s 3d; aged ewes and lambs, 17s 4d (all counted); good forward threequarter lambs, 23s fid; ordinary lambs. 20s 8d to 21s 7d; inferior lambs, 17s 6d to 17s 10d. Fat lambs.—A heavy yarding of 3564; the sale was scarcely so keen as prior to Christmas. Prime quality brought to 9*|d per lb; over-weight extra prime lambs, 33s to 355; prime. 30s 3d to 32s fid; medium, 27s fid to 30s; light unfinished, 23s to 275. Fat sheep. —A very small yarding of about seven races; values for good stuff were up by Is 6d per head; inferior unaltered. Freezing buyers operated at up to GJd for wethers; 5?,d for ewes; extra prime wethers to 38s, a few special to 42s fid; prime wethers, 33s fid to 37s 6d.; medium, 30s to 32s fid; light wethers, 24s to 295; extra prime ewes, 32s fid; prime, 28s 6<l to 31s fid; medium, 23s co 28s; light, 21s to 24s fid; old, IBs to 20s. Fat cattle—A heavy yarding of 600 head, of which cows formed the major portion. The excess entry caused a decided drop in values, ranging from 25s
to 35s per head. Passings were frequent. Extra prime steers, £l5; a few show to £l9 ss; prime steers, £lls 5s to £l3 10s; medium, £9 6s to £11; light, £6 to £8 15s Gel; extra prime heifers, £9 10s; prime, £6 15s to £11; light, £6 to £8 15s 6d; extra prime heifers, £0 10s; prime, £6 15s to £9; ordinary, £3 15s to £6 10s; extra prime cows, £8 15s; prime, £5 10s to £7 10s; ordinary, £4 to £siss; old, £2 to £3 19s 6d. * Vealers. —A medium entry, quality poor and prices unaltered. Runners, £6; vealers, £4 to £4 17s fid; medium calves, £1 10s to £3 ss; small calves, 10s to 15s. Store cattle. —A medium entry, with fair demand for forward steers.* Four-year-old steers, £7 2s; three-year-old steers, £5 5s to £6 3s; yearling heifers, 30s; medium to good cows, 25s to £2; old cows, 15s. Dairy cattle.—Good springers, close to calving, sold well; the top price was £ll 10s; inferior sorts wore neglected. •Fat pigs—Medium entry met with fair demand, particularly ’ for porkers. Choppers, £2 10s to £4; light porkers, £2 10s to £2 15s; heavy, £2 17s 6<l to £3 ss; average price per lb, Bdjto 9d; light baconers, £3 5s to £3 10s, heavy, £4 to £4 10s; average price per lb, fiid. Store pigs—A small entry, but slack demand. Weaners, 16s to 21s big stores, 25s to 31s; small stores, 25 s to 335.
