ARREST OF 7S CHINESE. FINES INFLICTED. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wellington, Jan. 4. Two gambling dens in Raining Street were raided by a party of detectives on Tuesday evening, when 75 Chinese were arrested in connection with playing fantan. AU the accused appeared before Mr. W. G. Riddell in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Wong Jung pleaded guilty to using Number 52 as a •common gaming-house, and was fined £'so, while his assistant, King Fong, was fined £l5. Chong Hung denied using Number 18 as a common gaming-house, and was fined £lOO. Seventy-two other Chinese were each fined £2 for being found illegally on premises, those of common gaminghouses.
