athletic MEETING. (From Our Own Reporter.) Stratford, Jan. 4. Attention is drawn to the Stratford Athletic Club’s sports gathering, the programme of which is advertised. Besides being the first meeting of this elub, the occasion will also mark the official opening of Victoria Park, and a large crowd is expected. The ground is admirably suited for the successful running of athletic events. Nominations -close with the secretary next Saturday, and as large fields and generous prizes are promised, intending competitors Should communicate with Mr. R. R. Tyrer (secretary) without delay. GENERAL. Miss Donn and Miss Everitt, of Dunedin, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. T Tempero, “The Laurels,” York Road, Midhirst. Under the Shops and Offices Aot, shop assistants may not work on more than one late night in any one week, and this explains why shops in Stratford closed last Saturday evening. The same applies to Saturday of this week, on account of Mbnday (New Year’s Eve) having been observed as the late night.
