MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

NEW PLYMOUTH SITTING. - A sitting of the, Magistrate’s Court at New Plymouth was held yesterday, Mr. J. S. Barton presiding. In an undefended claim, Smart Bros, were given judgment against H. Travers for £22 7s 3d, with costs £3 3s. In a judgment summons case, F. G. Smith was ordered to pay J. R. Hill and Son £.38 5s Id, in default 39 days’ imprisonment, the order to be suspended if the amount is reduced by £2 a months Arthur George Barr was charged on remand with having committted a bieaeh of the terms upon which he had been released upon probation. SeniorSergeant McCrorie explained that though he had been of good behaviour Bsrr had failed to report to the probation officer when he came to New Plymouth from Palmerston North. Defendant pleaded guilty, saying he lost his license and did not know what to do. The magistrate said that although the excuse by no means appeared adequate, he would give defendant the benefit of the doubt, and he was convicted and admitted to probation for a further period of six months. The magistrate intimated that he intended to endorse the license to the effect that if there should be a further breach of the conditions a term of imprisonment should be imposed.
