PLUNKET SHIELD MATCHES. WELLINGTON DEFEAT AUCKLAND. A FAIRLY EASY TASK. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. As was anticipated, Wellington had a fairly easy task on the final day of the Plunket Shield match. Auckland fought to the bitter end, but when the k last wicket fell they were 366 runs behind. Dacre played a glorious innings of 88, which included nine fours and six sixes, while Gillespie gave a fine display for 61. Smith batjed very steadily for 33, while Burton in his *4l hit five fours and two sixes. Details: WELLINGTON.
Bowling analysis.—Brice, two wickets for 101 runs, McGirr one for 38, Hiddleston four for 42, Holland one for 49, Bcrnau none for 9, Collins none for 41. OTAGO v. CANTERBURY. WIN FOR OTAGO. Christchurch, Last Night. The Plunket Shield match between Otago and Canterbury was won -by the former by 218 runs. Otago made 343 and 322 runs (Shepherd 15, McMullin 15, Worker 16, H. Alloo 33, Blaanires 133. Knight 4)5). Reid took one wicket for 51 runs, Cunningham one for 45, Mcßeth five for 91, Sandman two for 64. Blunt one for 19. Canterbury made 189 and 258 (Blunt 35, Gregory 10. Talbot 20, Reid 23, Patrick 29, Young 23, Oliver 58, Cunningham 17. Mcßeth 13. Fuller not out 12). Torrance took four wickets for 82 runs, A. NORTH v. SOUTH TARANAKI. TO-DAY’S FIXTURES. The annual cricket fixture between North and South Taranaki A teams will be played at Hawera to-day, commencing at ’0 a.m.. the B match being played ai New Plymouth. In conimcii with other parts of New Zealand, cricket in Taranaki has reachei a much improved standard this season, and with the best of Taranaki’s cricketers engaged the match at Hawera today is expected to produce bright play. After the fall of the first wicket Bowley and Murray had a protracted partnership, and taking advantage of the weak bowling, kept the field busy for several hours.
