PRINCESS AND COOK.

PLAIN FOOD WANTED. London, Dec. 8. The Weekly Despatch tells an amusing story of a cook who, on applying recently for a situation at Chesterfield House, the London residence of Lord Lascelles and Princess Mary, was astonished to find himself being interviewed by Princess Mary in person. “I’m sure I wouldn’t be good enough, Your Royal Highness,” said the cook, who was overcome by embarrassment. “But your references are excellent,” said Princess Mary-. “Y-es, but I can only do plain dishes,” stammered the cook. “That’s all right,” replied Princess Mary, telling him he was engaged, “we always have quite plain food here, even when my father and mother come to see üb.”
