BRITISH TRADE.
IMPROVEMENT MANIFEST. A FEELING OF OPTIMISM. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 27, 9.15 p.m. London, Dec. 26. The Daily Mail says: The fact that 119,000 unemployed have obtained work since October 29 is eloquent of Britain’s improving trade prospects. The leaders of various industries are optimistic Welsh merchants expect a most prosperous year if industrial trouble is avoided, the coal trade is in an excellent position; shipbuilders, who complained that work was postponed owing to the uncertainty of the political position, consider that as soon as that is remedied business should be brisk; hosiery manufacturers claim an improvement, although trade with Australia and New Zealand is slight, yet they are hopeful, after preferences are operative, to get a bigger share of orders.
