CORRESPONDENCE.
AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS’ VISIT. (To the Editor.) Sir, —In “Cricket Notes,” written by “L.8.W.,” he has something to say concerning the coming to New Plymouth of the great Australian eleven which proposes to visit and play here. “L.8.W.” explains that he does not wish to cast a wet blanket on the game, but it is a great pity that he should use his notes to proclaim his pessimistic ideas. In the first place, the small guarantee required can be arranged for very easily, and if “L.8.W.” had followed-the accounts of the various meetings of ffcp N.P.C.A. he would know that the mattfli was to be against North Taranaki alone. To suggest that games with other New Zealand teams instead •of the Australian game might be preferable is to my mind the height of absurdity, and I am rather surprised that “L.8.W.” should for one moment think such would be the case. The fact that the world’s greatest cricketers intend to play here is the one thing required to give the fillip to the grand old game that is so wanted, and I rest fully assured that the enthusiasts of North Taranaki will roll up in great numbers, irrespective of the day or date.—l am, etc., FRANK WILLIS.
