HOLIDAYS OUT OF DOORS.
, FIXTURES IN TARANAKI. VARIETY OF ATTRACTIONS. FINE WEATHER PROSPECTS. Yesterday’s glorious summer weather ha<s increased the prospects of a fine holiday season. Taranaki this Christmas season has many attractions to offer holiday-makers, and a great variety of amusement will be found in all parts of the province. To thousands, the Taranaki Jockey Club’s popular Christmas meeting at the New Plymouth racecourse on Wednesday and Thursday next week will make an appeal that will be irresistible. Special trains- have been arranged for both days, and as they do not leave on the return journey until well after the racing closes, -patrons will be able to enjoy themselves thoroughly. The club has spared no pains to make the meeting successful, and the picturesque grounds should present an animated appearance on both race days.
The sea beaches of New Plymouth are a magnet which always draw holidaymakers, and many visitors from inland Taranaki, as well, as from the town itself, are expected to avail themselves of the opportunity of desporting themselves in the surf and enjoying sunbaths on the sands. To the tiny tots the building of castles of sand, paddling in the pools in the rocks and in the sea, and scampering over the sand dunes, in themselves provide endless sources of amusement. As in past years, the proprietors of the Ngaere gardens (Messrs. Lester Bros.) have laid themselves out to cater, for picnickers in every respect. Twelve new selections for the magnavox will be heard for the first time during the Christmas holidays, while to further assist picnickers in having an enjoyable time the proprietors have made all the necessary arrangements to relieve, as far as practicable, those little worries attendant upon 'the packing of the family hamper by providing everything that may be required by the “inner man.” Special ’bus and train services have been arranged to and from New Plymouth and for the season. Frethey’s gardens are also in tip-tpp order for picnic parties, and, being handy to town, they will be sure to be appreciated by those who delight to spend a day in the bush. On Thursday, December 27, the Eltham Cycle Racing and Athletic Club’s monster sports meeting at Taumata I Park will form another attraction. A j very attractive programme has been | drawn up, which should merit the support of all lovers of this sport. Private outings and -picnics, especially to the mountain, feature largely on the Christmas holiday programme, and already parties are being arranged and plans discussed. Tennis and bowling | will claim their usual adherents, while I the disciple of the rod will be found at I the streams where the fishing is report- ! ed to be good.
