EMPIRE THEATRE. “FIRST LOVE.” Kathleen O’Donnell’s first love was Harry Stanton, a handsome bounder who palmed himself off on the girl as a medical student badly in need of funds to coDiplete his course. Kathleen played by Constance Binney trusted him implicity, broke with her parents when they refused him the house, threw up hcr job when her employer tried to convince her of Harry’s duplicity, and was willing to admit his falseness only when she raw him making love to another prl in the restaurant where she had found work. ‘‘First Love” is the title of the Paramount comedy drama which was screened at the Empire last night. Wesley ‘Freckles” Barry the popular, befreckled. funloving and mischievoujuvenile star will be screened at to-day’s matinee at Everybody’s in “Rags to Riches.” Matinee prices are Is fid and le for adults and fid for children. “Rags to Ricfffrs” gives Wesley Barry the best screen story he has yet had to throw his audience into gales of laughter by the unusual situations he gets himself into. “Freckles,” the juvenile actor, in thia marvellously acted photodrama, serves "to bring home in an entertaining and forceful manner the keynote of success and happiness. He’s a lovable urchin s>ut a genius. Niles Welch, Ruth Renick and Russell Simpson head the supporting cast. “Anna Ascends,” a Paramount picture, from the play by Harry C. Ford is the second feature on the Miss Alice Brady is starred, and the supporting cast includes Nita Naldi. David Powell and Robert Ellis. The programme screens finally to-night. Box plan arrangements are advertised The big attraction at Everybody’s on Monday is ‘'Fury,” a nine-reel special production starring Richard Barthelmeas and Dorothy Gish. THE PEOPLE'S. MATINEE TO-DAY AT 2 P.M. “Through the Storm,” to-day’s big feature at the People’s Theatre is a gripping romantic drama in which nature, in tempestuous mood, brings an answer to a girl whose heart and soul are weary of the struggles of life. Reared in a life of luxury and idleness, everything is suddenly stripped from her—money. position, honour. Friendless and alone she takes up the struggle for existence, for which she is woefully unequipped. “Through the Storm” is a picture which will appeal to any picture goer. It is a story replete with heart interest, action, suspense and luxury. Edith Stoekton and Loma Kimball arc the leading players. The children of Kaponga are promised a special treat on Monday afternoon (Christmas Eve), when the pictures will give a free matinee for ehildren, commencing at 2 p.m. Every child who visits Kaponga that afternoon can be the guest of the picture management. And the programme is going to he one which should delight the young people. Richard Talmadge in “Putting It Over” is said to be full of thrills, spills, and laughs, while other films will be a Century comedy, “Just Kids,” and International News.
