ANGLICAN BAZAAR.

URUTI CHURCH SCHEME. An Anglican back-blocks home mission bazaar was held at Uruti yesterday, the function being organised for the purpose of raising funds to build an Anglican church at Uruti. The committee have been assisted by other denominations, who are to have free use of the church. The site for the building has been procured and paid for by the proceeds from the home mission bazaar held at Uruti recently and the standing committee of the church of England. The committee have approximately £lOO in hand, and it is anticipated that the building will cost about £350, the balance to he raised by bazaars or in any other way the committee may deem advisable. Despite the rain, which fell almost incessantly throughout the day, the function was most successful, and the various stalls, which were well-filled, attracted the attention of those seeking bargains, and most of the articles were soon disposed of. The opening ceremony was performed by Archdeacon F. G. Evans. The Rev. G. H. Gavin (vicar of Waitara), the Rev. W. W. Avery (Methodist minister at Wai tara) and the Rev. E. H. Kedgley (Presbyterian minister at Waitara) also spoke. Mr. George, secretary bf the back-blocks home-mission committee, outlined the committee’s proposals. Mrs. Larsen, of Pehu, apologised for the absence of Mr. Newton King, who was unable to be present on account of business in New Plymouth.

The following were in charge of the various stalls:—Fancy stall, Mesdames Butt, R. Johnson, Miller and Miss McCullum; sweets, Mesdames Nicholls and Barnitt; Christmas tree, Misses Sutton (2) ; surprise packet, Miss Boyes; fishing pond, Misses Oxenham, E. Thomson and Musker; produce, Messrs. Henry and Sutton. Mesdames Henry and Sutton; skittles, Master S. Woods and J. Jupp: bran tub, Misses Campbell, Western and Oxenham: competitions, Misses Alpe, Oxenham, Brough anti Murray (2), and Messrs. R. Larsen and N. Oxenham; sheen-guessing, Mr. J. Erni; High School stall. Douglas Banks, R. List, J. Miller, C. G. Cocksedge and Rex Larsen; afternoon tea, Mrs. Davies. Other helpers were Mesdames George, Bell, Woods, Wells, Johnson, and Boves and Misses Smith, A. Sutton and G. Thomson. A very enjoyable dance was held in the evening.
