FIRE DESTROYS HOME.

OTHER HOUSES IN DANGER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. A nine-roomed two-storey bungalow on Cashmere Hills, owned and occupied by Mr. E. C. Huie,, managing editor of the Sun, was totally destroyed by fire last night. The house, which had been built only eighteen months, was a mass of flames when the brigade reached the scene. It is presumed the fire was caused by a spark from a coke furnace lodging in the woodwork.

A strong wind was blowing, and owing to a shortage of water the -brigade confined its efforts to saving the adjoining houses, which were in danger from showers of sparks. The house and furniture were insured in the Northern Insurance Office for £3OOO, which will not nearly pover the loss. A good deal of furniture was saved from the lower portion of the'’house.
