JAPAN’S RECONSTRUCTION.
ESTIMATES REDUCED. IMPORTANT WORKS DEFERRED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 29, 11.40 p.m. Tokio, Nov. 28. The Reconstruction Board has reduced the Government estimate for rebuilding the devastated areas to 67 hundred million yen. This means the postponement of the construction of the TokioYokohama canal and Tokio harbor works. Tokio, Nov. 28. After a three days’ session, at which the Government’s plan, for reconstruction was search ingly examined, the advisory council recommended an amendment to the plan, by eliminating the construction of the Tokio-Yokohama canal and the Tokio harbor, which should be separately ffealt with, also shortening the first period of reconstruction by twelve months, thereby, it is believed, curtailing expenditure by more than 100 million yen. The Government to-day agreed to meet the wishes of the council as far as possible.
