ARMISTICE DAY.
EMPIRE-WIDE OBSERVANCE INDIA AND JAPAN JOIN. By Telegraph—Freis Assn.—Copyright. London, Nov. 12. At 10.30 on the morning of Armistice Day the King placed on the Unknown Warrior’s grave a solitary wreath of laurel bound with Flanders’ poppies. Air Marshal Trenchard placed a wreath on the Air Force memorial on the Victoria Embankment in the presence of a great gathering. The day was observed throughout the whole Empire. Delhi, Nov. 12. The chief event on Armistice Day was the unvcJing by General Rawlinson of a bronze memorial to the Garwhal Rifles, who performed distinguished service during the war. Tokio, Nov. 12. Armistice Day was celebrated by a mass meeting in the Misiya Park under the auspices of the League of Nations Association. Foreign Ministers and the diplomatic corps were present. Resolutions were adopted thanking friendly Powers for the sympathy and relief given in the recent calamity. Capetown, Nov. 12. At the conclusion of the Armistice Day service in the Johannesburg Town Hall, a prominent Communist named Glass endeavored to give the other side of the story. A hostile crowd threw his few supporters into the street and proposed to throw him under a traincar. Policemen arrived in time to save him.
