The Rev. John Kilpatrick has been elected Moderator of the Taranaki Presbytery for the ensuing year.

‘The death occurred in Hawera on Thursday of Mr. Alfred Cadman, at the age of 54 years. The late Mr. Cadman was born at Greymouth, where he was engaged in mining and later in farming, coming to Hawera three years ago. He is survived by a widow and one daughter. Mr. R. B. Rigg, staff inspector of the Bank of Now Zealand, has retired on pension after 50 years' service. On Wednesday a presentation of several pieces of plate was made to Mr. and Mrs. Rigg by Mr. H. Buckleton, general on behalf of the staffs in New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji. The Hon. C. J. Parr left yesterday for ■Sydney by the Marama on a brief visit to Australia. Mr. Parr will visit Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. The Minister expects to *be absent about four weeks. Meantime Sir Francis Bell will attend to matters connected with Justice, Prisons and Police Departments, and Public Trust and Stamp Offices. The Hon. G. J. Anderson will look after educational affairs in Mr. Parr's absence.

The results of the Canterbury College terms examination has been published, and it is interesting to note that Mr. M. Barak, an old boy of the New Plymouth High School, was placed first in all the subjects he took for the Science Faculty. He was successful in gaining first-cbwa passes in Physics and Applied Mathematics, winning the college prizes in these subjects. Dr. William M. Stenhouse, for many years one of Dunedin’s best known medical practitioners, has died at the age of 82, reports a Press Association message from Dunedin. (Formerly on the staff of the Dunedin Hospital, and at one time a member of the Education Board, the late Dr. Stenhouse was born at Glasgow, and educated at the Glasgow University, where he graduated M.B. and C.M., in 1876, taking his degree as M.'D., in absentia, in 1677. He came to New Zealand as surgeon-super-intendent of an emigrant ship, in 1875, and settled in Dunedin the following year, after making one or two trips to the Old Country in the same capacity. The late Dr. Stenhouse was married in 1881 to a daughter of Mr. A. Anderson, of Stirling, Otago.
