Coates, Minister for Public Works, send the following reply to the Town Board as the result of a resolution forwarded by the board recently:— “In answer to yours of the 25th ult., regarding the completion of the railway at Manaia, I wish to draw your attention to the fact that while I was visiting Taranaki in June last, a deputation waited on me at Manaia, and one of the members of that deputation stated that it tfas unlikely that the produce from the factory would be sent by rail; it would still be carried by motor. In these circumstances it would hardly be wise for the Government to proceed with the construction of the railway at the present time.”—-J. G, Coates, Minister for Public Works,
