The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 4th instant:— Wool Sales.—There was a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competitions by Home and Continental buyers being good, and prices, as compared with the close of preceding series, ruled Par to 5 per cent, "higher for merino. fine cross-bred, coarse cross-bred and slipe cross-bred, and 5 per cent, higher for medium cross-bred. The opening catalogues were representative. TALLOM# MARKET. Received Sept. 6. 5.5 p.m. • London, Sept. 5. At the tallow sales 1871 casks were offered and 1201 sold at late rates to sixpence advance. The £1 sterling is quoted at 450 9-16 cents., which is another low record. WHEAT CARGOES. Received Sept. 6, 8.33 p.m. London, Sept. 5. Wheat cargoes are firm and occasionally higher, but consumers are disinclined to follow the advance. Parcels are threepence to sixpence higher. LOCAL MARKETS.
