CROQUET.
NEW CLUB FORMED. The New Plymouth Bowling Club committee invited members’ wives and daughters to meet them at the pavilion yesterday afternoon for the purpose of forming a croquet club adjoining the bowling greens. There was a good attendance of ladies. The committee submitted draft rules, etc, and it was resolved to form a club, to bo known as the Central Croquet Club, and the rules, with slight alteration, were approved. The ladies were most enthusiastic and formed themselves into a committee to canvass for members. Half the number necessary handed in their names in the room. Prior to the meeting the ladies inspected the new greens, and were greatly pleased with what had been done by the* club. The members have no financial responsibility beyond their annual subscriptions, as the bowling club undertakes to look after the greens- ■ As the privilege of play is reserved for members’ wives and daughters, any lady outside wanting to join must get her husband to become a member of the bowling club. The official opening will take place on the same day as that of the bowling clubs, namely, Saturday, October 13.
